Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa – 188

The Business Innovation and Investment visa enables the applicant to own and manage their business in Australia. Additionally, the applicant also gets the liberty to conduct business and investment activity in Australia or engage or undertake an entrepreneurial activity in the continent. The applicant must submit their expression of interest (EOI) in SkillSelect to be eligible to apply. Furthermore, an invitation to apply for the visa is a compulsion, and the nomination of the candidate must be by a State or Territory government agency. There are different streams to apply under this visa nomination. They are briefly listed below.

Business Innovation stream

Under the Business Innovation stream, people will develop business skills to apply for a provisional visa to conduct new or existing business across Australia. This visa stream enables the applicant to reside in Australia for up to 4 years and three months. The cost of acquiring this visa starts from AUD 5,375 (approx.).The standard processing times currently not available for this stream.

Investor Stream

To be eligible to apply under the Investor stream visa, you must invest at least AUD 1.5 million in an Australian State or Territory. You must continue to maintain business or investment activity in Australia only after being nominated by a territory government agency or an Australian State. With the provisional visa, one can reside in Australia for up to 4 years and three months. This visa costs AUD 5,375 (approx.), and the standard processing times aren’t available for this stream.​​​​​​​

Significant Investor stream

The Significant Investor stream is a provisional visa category for investors who are willing to invest at least AUD 5 million in Australian investments to meet specific requirements and maintain investment activity in the country. It is mandatory to be nominated by a Territory government agency, or Austrade, or an Australian State to apply. The cost for this visa stream starts from AUD 7,880 (approx.), and the applicant can reside in Australia for up to 4 years and three months. For this stream, the standard processing times are not available at the moment.

Business Innovation Extension Stream

The Business Innovation Extension Stream is a provisional visa category where the Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (under subclass 188) can extend their stay in Australia for two more years. And if COVID_19 concessions apply, the visa holders can extend their stay for an additional four years or more. The application process for this visa costs AUD 645 (approx.). The standard processing time for this visa stream is not presently available.

Significant Investor Extension stream

The applicants willing to invest at least AUD 5 million in Australian investments are eligible to apply under the Significant Investor Extension stream. The investment must meet specific requirements, and the applicant should continue to maintain investment activity in Australia. This provisional visa stream allows the visa holder to stay for up to 4 years and three months in Australia. The cost for this visa stream starts from AUD 7,880 (approx.), and the standard processing times are not currently available.

Premium Investor stream

The applicants who Austrade nominates can apply under this provisional visa stream. Under the Premium Investor stream, the applicant must be willing to invest at least AUD 15 million in philanthropic contributions or Australian investments. The visa holders can enjoy their stay in Australia for up to 4 years and three months. The cost for this provisional visa stream starts from AUD 9,455 (approx.). For this stream, the standard processing time is not available.

Entrepreneur stream 

Under the Entrepreneur Stream, visa holders can carry out entrepreneurial activities in Australia. This provisional visa allows the applicant to stay for up to 4 years and three months. To carry out the entrepreneurial activities, the applicant must have a funding agreement with a third party. It is also mandatory to be nominated by a Territory government agency or an Australian State to apply under this provisional visa stream. This visa costs AUD 4,045 (approx.). Due to the low volume of applications, the standard processing time is unavailable.

Business Talent (Permanent) Visa – 132

The Business Talent (Permanent) visa (under subclass 132) allows the visa holders to stay permanently and conduct a new or existing business across Australia. The cost for this visa subclass starts from AUD 7,855.

To be eligible to apply under this business subclass, the applicant must have the required funding or assets. It is also mandatory that a territory government or an Australian state nominates the applicant, and they receive an invitation to apply for the visa. This visa subclass has two streams- Significant Business History Stream and Venture Capital Entrepreneur Stream.

The Significant Business History Stream is for experienced business owners willing to operate a new or existing business in Australia. The processing time for this subclass stream is between 30 months to 32 months. The Venture Capital Entrepreneur Visa Stream is for those applicants who have sourced venture capital funding of at least AUD 1 million from a member of the Australian Investment Council (AIC).
